The Newark Housing Authority sought to renovate and reconfigure this existing 180,000 ft2 residential tower and reduce the number of units from 252 to 209 apartments in an effort to create more efficient living spaces. The new public spaces include a cafeteria, community room, lounge, laundry room, additional office space, expanded lobby and public restrooms for the tenants. New trash chutes were added to each floor, and the elevators were renovated to provide ADA access to all floors. Due to the recent changes in emergency preparedness standards, (2) new emergency generators were added on the roof. The exterior brick work received a minor facelift with the existing stucco at ground level being replaced with brick. Close to existing transportation links, this renovated senior housing will be able to serve the area’s needs for the foreseeable future.
